Improving seed germination by soaking in aloe juice before planting

On the shelves of gardening shops there are a dozen different preparations for awakening and increasing the germination of seeds. They differ in the manufacturer and, accordingly, in cost.

But most summer residents are skeptical of such chemicals, and trust natural remedies more.

In this article, we will consider the importance of soaking seeds in aloe juice, which crops are most suitable for this manipulation, as well as the processes of preparing the mixture.

Why soak before boarding?

Aloe is a natural biostimulant that is no less effective than store analogues. The composition of this plant includes active substances and hydroxycinnamic acids. Due to the latter, the seed membrane softens, which facilitates the ingestion of liquid and nutrients into the embryo. In fact, aloe juice is in no way inferior to the popular Zircon.

The method of soaking seeds in aloe juice:

  • is additional food;
  • disinfects, destroys pests trying to eat a seed;
  • promotes revitalization of old seeds;
  • stimulates simultaneous and uniform germination;
  • has a positive effect in the process of biting a sprout.

How long to process?

The duration of soaking in the juice of a medicinal plant depends on the culture itself and varies from 7 to 24 hours. For example, 7 hours is enough for peas. During this time, the seeds are already well swollen. But more than 18 hours will require seed: cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants.

What crop seeds can be soaked for seedling?

First of all, it is worth figuring out which seeds are treated with a natural biostimulant. Not for all vegetables, this process is favorable.

In some cases, it can be harmful, being an aggressive environment. Thus, reduce the percentage of germination.

Soaking is contraindicated in seeds:

  • Pumpkins
  • celery;
  • Luke.

Other vegetables, on the contrary, respond well to the procedure. Among them:

  • Tomatoes
  • pepper;
  • eggplant;
  • radish;
  • cucumbers
  • cabbage;
  • radish.

What leaves to use?

To make aloe juice at home, it’s important to choose the right leaves. Suitable shoots must meet certain criteria.

  1. Choose an adult flower that is at least 3-4 years old.
  2. The length of the shoots should be no more than 18 cm.
  3. Foliage should not be yellow or with dry tips.
  4. Necessarily absence of spots, bumps, tuberous surface.
  5. Suitable material is a green, juicy, healthy leaf without visible defects.
  6. Trim exactly the bottom thick leaves.
Important. Old aloe leaves contain more nutrients than young leaves.

How to prepare the mixture correctly?

How to process the seeds? There are several variations in the preparation of aloe juice for soaking seeds.

Gel composition

  1. Choose the right green material in the manner described above.
  2. Rinse the leaves under running water, then pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. Place them in the refrigerator for 24 hours for biostimulation.
  4. After a day, chop green shoots.
  5. Take cheesecloth and fold in several layers. Transfer the crushed mass into it.
  6. Separate the gel-like liquid and place in a glass container.
  7. Aloe gel, if necessary, can be mixed with water or other components.

In a blender

  1. With the leaves of the healing plant, do the manipulations described above.
  2. Fold small pieces of leaves in a blender and chop.
  3. And squeeze out the slaughtered mass using gauze.

With honey

Obtained, using 1 or 2 methods, combine aloe juice with clean, distilled water. Proportions: 1 tablespoon of juice, 1 tablespoon of liquid honey and a liter of liquid. Mix everything thoroughly. The mixture for soaking is ready.

Pre-sowing procedure

  1. Before soaking the seeds in a biostimulator, they should be slightly warmed up. However, without fanaticism, it is enough to put on a heating radiator for the night.
  2. Next, sort the seed, especially if it is not purchased. The amount of the crop directly depends on the germination of seeds. Therefore, to determine the quality, it is necessary to filter the seed with water. Take a container, pour seeds into it, pour 5% saline solution there. All seeds that emerge are not suitable for sowing.
  3. Next, perform the disinfection process. There are a number of vegetables whose seeds can carry infectious diseases. That is, if you plant a deliberately diseased seed, we will get an already infected plant. A similar situation may adversely affect the future harvest. Therefore, soaking in a solution of manganese is used.

    In order not to harm the seeds, this solution should be made weak, not more than 2%. So, for 1 cup of warm water, take 1/3 tablespoon of manganese. Then divide this mass into 3 parts. And you should take 1 portion, get a 1 percent solution. The duration of the seeds in such a solution is 60 minutes, not more.

Attention. After disinfection, thoroughly rinse the seeds.

Tomatov

  1. Put the prepared seeds on a piece of gauze folded in several layers.
  2. Make a knot.
  3. Warm aloe juice to room temperature, otherwise a positive effect will not be achieved.
  4. Dip the seed bundle into the juice container.
  5. In the process of soaking, the seed should be mixed.
  6. Leave for 18 hours.
  7. Squeeze out the seeds and transfer to a plastic bag.
  8. Clean in a warm place for quick germination.
  9. Sow sprouted seeds in open ground.

Pepper

  1. For the procedure, take a napkin moistened with aloe juice.
  2. Sorted seed material of pepper is placed on one end, and the second is covered on top.
  3. Air temperature should be + 25-28 ° С.
  4. Regularly monitor the humidity of the wipes.
  5. After seed swelling, they can be planted in the ground.
  6. On average, it takes 2-3 days.
  7. When sprouts appear, sow without fail in moist ground.

Eggplant

  1. Spread the seeds on the surface of the plate, the main thing is that they do not touch each other.
  2. Pour a solution of aloe juice and water in a ratio of 1: 1.
  3. Leave on for 24 hours.
  4. After a day, slightly dry and plant in the soil.
  5. Aloe extract does not need to be washed off.

Inside sheet processing

If you do not want to spend time soaking the seeds in the above ways, then use the express method. Germination of seeds directly inside the leaf:

  1. choose the largest, healthiest, densest aloe leaf;
  2. with a sharp knife cut it along;
  3. lay out the seeds;
  4. cover with the second part;
  5. when the seeds increase in size - proceed with planting.

I would like to note that seeds sprouted in this way should not be washed, but planted in the soil directly from the leaf. Thus, the first time the sprout will have protection against microbes, which positively affects the dynamics of growth.

What will happen if overexposed?

In the process of soaking the seeds, it is important not to overdo it. No need to keep seeds in a biostimulator beyond the due dateotherwise they will swell a lot. Therefore, more oxygen will be required, which will negatively affect future seedlings.

Soaking is a good thing. It stimulates the rapid germination of seeds, improving yield. Experienced gardeners recommend using this procedure if you are late with the timing of planting. And the use of aloe juice is much cheaper and more environmentally friendly than production biostimulants.
